EURAXESS Info day held in Split
03.12.2009

A EURAXESS Info day was held in Split, 30 October 2009, which incorporated a Workshop on issues of researchers' mobility and a Training session for the administrative staff.
The event was organised by the EURAXESS Service Centre at the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes, with assistance from Ms. Snježana Lisičić, the EURAXESS Network LCP at the University of Split. The event was held at the University of Split.

The Workshop on issues of researchers' mobility started at 10 a.m. with a greeting from prof. dr. sc. Roko Andričević, the Vice-rector for science and international cooperation at the University of Split.
A presentation of the EURAXESS programme and Service Centre followed, held by Ms. Bojana Grubišin, after which Ms. Vesna Babaja presented the EURAXESS web portals - the national, and the central one.

All scientists from Split were invited, and the final count of participants was 24, including two scientists from the University of Zadar.

Active participation was encouraged, which led to the discussion of many questions that have already come up in practice.

The Workshop lasted a little under an hour, after which some of the participants stayed for an informal chat with coffee and cake.

The Training session started at 2 p.m. It was intended for the administrative staff of research organizations, and 18 people were present: employees of the offices for international cooperation, administration and finances of faculties, university centres and the private research organization Medils, as well as the LCPs from the universities of Split, Zadar and Dubrovnik.

Jelena Štimac and Ana Grdović from the EURAXESS Service Centre explained the procedure involved in hosting a foreign researcher and the regulation of their stay according to the latest Croatian legislation, described how a foreign citizen can acquire Croatian citizenship and real estate in Croatia, and shown the possibilities offered in the issues of social security and taxation of foreigners.

Another discussion followed, focusing on problems that arised while hosting foreign researchers.

After the training session the participants expressed their satisfaction with the event and with the chance to learn more about EURAXESS Services in Croatia.
