The European Year of Youth 2022

The European Year of Youth 2022 is dedicated to young people whose lives, education, and careers have been strongly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Intensified efforts are planned to integrate youth priorities into relevant Union policies at every level of the Union's decision-making process. Special emphasis is placed on the need to support young people who have fewer opportunities in acquiring relevant knowledge and experience in order to be active and involved citizens. The European Year of Youth 2022 seeks to support young people at all levels, European, national, regional, and local, in engaging in opportunities that can empower their private and professional development.

As part of this initiative, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation is launching the Horizon Europe Call for Youth 2022 from April 1st, 2022. This initiative invites students to participate in the evaluation of proposals under the Horizon Europe programme as observers from September 2022. All students attending graduate studies in any field and at any university in a Member State of the European Union can participate. The participation of disadvantaged students and/or those from vulnerable and marginalized groups is particularly encouraged.

The initiative refers to evaluation procedures in all fields of science in the broadest sense, with young observers receiving a mentor from the European Commission to accompany them during the evaluation process. Universities in the Union and national contact points for Horizon Europe are particularly important partners in this initiative as they can support the European Commission in other activities at different levels to share the experience of young observers and share lessons learned to further develop this initiative. More information about the initiative itself is available at the following link.
