Success of Croatian organisations in MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship 2022 call!

EU MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship results

Congratulations to the Institute of Physics, the Faculty of Science University of Zagreb for successful #MSCA Postdoctoral projects and to the Faculty of Humanity and Social Science for #ERA Fellowship!

With the budged of  €257 million Euroepan Commission will support up to 1,235 post-doctoral researchers to work at top universities, research centres, private and public organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises. Success rate for 2022 call is 17,5%.

The Institute of Physics, within the framework of the OSE-Ferroelectrics project and under the supervision of Ph.D. Marko Kralj, will host Ph.D. Nives Štrkalj. In the face of the rising energy consumption of electronic devices, ferroelectric materials can provide energy-efficient solutions for targeted applications such as transistors or memory devices. However, ferroelectric properties of thin films typically degrade at reduced thicknesses. In OSE-Ferroelectrics, I aim to understand and overturn ferroelectric size effects by combining material optimization with scanning-probe microscopy, optical and electrical techniques.

The Faculty of Science University of Zagreb, within the framework of the 2D-MBL-QPsyst project and under the supervison of Ph.D. Hrvoje Buljan, to host Ph.D. Antonio Štrkalj.Many-body localisation (MBL) represents a new frontier in the statistical physics of quantum systems, allowing them to avoid reaching thermal equilibrium. Heretofore, it has been confirmed that MBL can exist in isolated one-dimensional systems. The main goal of 2D-MBL-QPSYST is to theoretically investigate the stability of the MBL phase in exotic two-dimensional quasiperiodic systems. Stable MBL systems can protect quantum states and information encoded in them from destruction by thermalisation and serve as platforms for future technologies operating at the quantum level.

Beside #MSCA funding, 58 additional fellowships will go to excellent researchers in Widening Countries under the ERA Fellowships. Among selected is SOCGLOBE project that will be implemented in Faculty of Science and Humanities University of Zagreb.

We also congratulate all experienced Croatian researchers whose projects have been approved for financing, and we invite them to contact us for assistance in implementing and promoting projects!

Other Croatian participants who have passed the threshold are entitled to financial support within the framework of measures to strengthen national participation in European Union programs in the field of research, innovation and space. More information is available in the Decision on measures by the Ministry of Science and Education.

More information on the call statistics is availabe on MSCA offical web page.
